A Hobby for the Tome is an exploration of the Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien through the lens of linguistics. I approach the issues from two directions:

1. The Text: I talk about the text based on things I find interesting as a linguist. These might be about grammar, phonology, etymology–anything about English (Modern or Old), Quenya, Sindarin, etc. that I think are noteworthy. I may even wander into translations into other languages, if the mood strikes.
2. The Conlang: I am creating a brand new artificial language (conlang), and I am translating the Lord of the Rings into this conlang. Posts in this category detail the creation and translation process.
